You may be able to get a free trial to League Pass when you subscribe through third-party platforms like Prime Video. The NBA’s website doesn’t usually offer free trials but occasionally offers “free preview weeks” through the NBA app.

An NBA blackout is a restriction that prevents a game from being shown live in a specific area because of exclusive broadcaster rights. Blacked-out games are typically added to NBA League Pass on demand a few hours to a few days after they've aired live.

League Pass streams every game live that isn't already airing on a national broadcaster or on a team's local broadcast. You can watch blacked-out games through a broadcaster, such as ABC, or wait for the replay to be added to League Pass after the game.

Proton VPN doesn't prevent Free users from streaming. However, some streaming services limit access from IP addresses associated with free VPN servers — that's not something we can control. If reliable streaming is what you need, a paid Proton VPN plan gives you access to our Plus servers, which are built and optimized for it.

When you use a VPN, your public-facing IP address changes to match the VPN server location you select. As a subscriber in the US, connecting to a server near your home helps ensure you see the content intended for your existing streaming accounts. Connecting to a different server location may show content intended for a different region.

If you’re having issues streaming the NBA live while connected to Proton VPN, visit our streaming troubleshooting guide for help.

VPN usage is completely legal in most countries. So whether you’re using a VPN for streaming or simply to protect your privacy, you won’t risk breaking the law. However, please note that Proton VPN is a VPN service not intended to be used as a means of copyright circumvention. For more details, please read the Proton VPN Terms and Conditions of Service and the terms of use of the streaming service you’re using.

You can use Proton VPN with many of the most popular streaming services, including Prime Video, Fubo, and ESPN. See our Streaming guide for more details.
