We installed new servers in India!

Posted on September 4th, 2018 by in Service Updates.

India came in fourth place in our community poll to decide where to install our new servers. We have now installed multiple VPN servers in India. Be sure to come back to our blog next week to see where our next servers will be installed.

These new VPN servers are located in Pune and reserved for users on one of our paid plans:

IN #1 is available for Basic plans
IN #2 is available for Plus and Visionary plans

Why India VPN servers?

India is the second-most populous country on the earth. These servers are necessary to keep up with the massive demand. With India VPN servers now online, ProtonVPN users throughout South Asia will see a reduction in latency. Indian authorities have a history of blocking social media platforms and websites. For our Indian users in the country, these servers represent assured access to friends and family via WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. For Indian users outside of India, these servers will allow you to keep up with all the news from home by providing you an Indian IP address to avoid the geo-restrictions on your favorite websites.

Server IN#2 has been reserved for customers with Plus or Visionary accounts. In addition to the faster speeds that come with this exclusive server, users with these accounts have access to our Secure Core architecture, which increases security by routing Internet traffic through multiple servers owned and serviced by ProtonVPN.

Hi, it would be great if servers are extended to cover the south of India possibly in Chennai or Bengaluru. Also please provide at least one P2P server in India. I have to connect to the other countries currently for the P2P. Thanks!

Hi Sidharth. Please note that while our special P2P servers are optiimized for P2P, we allow P2P on all our servers.

  3. Raj

And please add P2P support, atleast on some of the servers. 🙏

India has 10 servers. Are all of them in Mumbai and Pune??
It’d be better to add a server or two in Delhi/Kolkata and Bengaluru/Chennai.
Looking forward to expanded coverage in India

I appreciate if proton team can take into account the vast length and breadth of India and having servers concentrated in Mumbai , pune neighborhood won’t serve the purpose.
I have written multiple emails to increase the vpn server to North and south India esp metro like bengaluru, chennai in South which have better network penetration. I am a plus user and I am forced to cancel the plus membership because you won’t increase the server down south . Its a classic chicken and egg situation and you are visibly losing indian patrons because of your step mother treatment to India.
If USA can get servers for almost every state , India deserves couple more in its South metros .

Thanks for extending your VPN service to India.
Could you please consider our request of adding P2P support on at least one of the 2 India servers?
I believe many Indian customers (whether existing or aspiring) would want this support.
So please do let us know if this support could be added.
