In this article, we are going to address the installation, usage and main features of our VPN application for Windows.
A: The installation of ProtonVPN Windows application:
Log in to our website www.protonvpn.com and click on downloads tab then selecting windows as your operating system.
You will be redirected to this page download page. Simply click “Download for Windows“.
Then the application will start downloading.
Just double-click on the downloaded application and approve the installation by following these steps:
As shown in the screenshot below, you can select the installation folder and by default, it’s installing to your program files on C drive.
During the installation of the Windows VPN application, you will be prompted with another window asking to run the installation. Click on Run to complete the ProtonVPN Windows app installation.
B: Usage of ProtonVPN Windows application:
When the installation is completed for the Windows VPN application, you will have a ProtonVPN shortcut created on your desktop. Simply find the shortcut and double-click on it to launch the application. After doing so, the login screen will appear where you need to enter your ProtonVPN credentials to sign-in. You need to use your account username and the correct account password.
Also, as displayed in the screenshot, you have a few options like “Remember Login” and “Start with Windows“, and if those are enabled, the application will start on boot straight to the map UI.
When successfully signed-in, you will be presented with the UI of our Windows VPN application for quick and easy navigation and connection. To get secured instantly, click on the “Quick Connect” button to connect to the closest server with least load for most optimal performance.
So now you can see the country list where each country has a number of VPN servers that you can find by clicking the downwards arrow. Some of the countries as seen in the screenshot below have different specialty servers, for example, Netherlands has two arrows facing different ways meaning that this country has servers that support P2P traffic. Onion logo near Hong Kong means that we have servers that support Tor over VPN in that country.
To show the menu of our application click on the 3 horizontal lines at the top left corner as shown in the screenshot. Once the menu is opened, you’ll be able to access the following aspects:
About – Information about application version, last time updated and the changelog.
Profiles – View and edit your created profiles for your browsing security needs.
Settings – Access the application settings like changing UDP/TCP protocol, Killswitch option, and other features.
Help – Brings you to our Help Center for additional information or contacting customer support.
Report a bug – Send your issue information and attach the application connection logs to our support team.
Logout – Logs out of your ProtonVPN account within ProtonVPN application and returns you to the log in screen.
Exit – Closes the application completely.
In the application settings – general tab you can see features that our application offer for your convenience and using habits.
Also, our VPN application for Windows has Session traffic map to show your current network bandwidth usage and time.
Once you are connected, you`ll see similar information in the top-left corner of the application too.
That is it! Once you have successfully connected through the Windows VPN application – you are secured and in control of your privacy using ProtonVPN services!
