How to watch CBC News and CBC Gem with Proton VPN

Established in 1936, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is Canada’s publicly funded national public broadcaster. As its name suggests, CBC News (established in 1941) provides comprehensive coverage of Canadian and international news across various platforms, including online. CBC Gem is CBC’s streaming service, offering a wide range of on-demand and live content, including news, TV shows, documentaries, live sports, and movies.

CBC News online is free to watch and doesn’t require you to sign in (although you can sign in for a more personalized experience). Ad-supported CBC Gem is free to watch but requires you to sign in with a CBC, Apple, Google, or Facebook account (we recommend signing up for a CBC account using a Proton Mail hide-your-email alias(new window) for maximum privacy).

Troubleshooting CBC News and CBC Gem streaming problems

If CBC News or CBC Gem doesn’t work after following the above steps, try the following troubleshooting options:

  3. Restart your device.
  4. Clear your DNS cache (Windows, Mac, or Linux).
