How do I download the free Proton VPN app for Windows?: Sign up for Proton VPN (if you don’t already have a Proton Account).
Download Proton VPN for Windows, and double-click the downloaded file to start the installation. A wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation.
To connect, open the Proton VPN app, log in to your account, and click Quick Connect.
How do I connect to a free VPN server on Windows?: Once you’ve installed Proton VPN for Windows, simply open the app, sign in to your account, and click the Quick Connect button. Proton VPN will automatically connect you to the fastest free server available.
Where are Proton VPN free servers located?: If you’re on Proton VPN Free, you'll be automatically connected to one of our free servers in the Netherlands, Japan, Romania, Poland, or the United States.
What is a permanent kill switch?: Proton VPN for Windows has both a kill switch and a permanent kill switch.
When you turn the kill switch on, Proton VPN disables the internet if the VPN connection drops to hide your real IP address.
When you turn the permanent kill switch on, your internet connection is blocked at all times unless you’re connected to a VPN server. That means your internet connection will also be blocked when Windows is starting up and shutting down and whenever you manually disconnect the VPN.

How do I know if my processor is x64 or ARM64?: To find out if your Windows computer uses an x64, ARM64 or x86 (32-bit) processor:
Open the System Information tool. To do this, press Win + R to open the Run dialog ("Win" is the key with the Windows logo), type msinfo32 , and click Enter. Alternatively, search for System Information from the Start menu.
Go to System Summary → System Type. Your system architecture will be listed here.
