Allowing VPN configurations on your iPhone or iPad

The first time you connect to a Proton VPN server using our iOS or iPadOS app, you’ll see a system notification asking permission for Proton VPN to add VPN configurations to your device. To use Proton VPN, you must tap the Allow button. You won’t be able to use Proton VPN until this is done.

If you select Don’t allow, we’ll prompt you to Add VPN Configurations each time you attempt to connect to Proton VPN.

Note that if your iPhone or iPad is managed remotely through mobile device management (MDM) software, you may need to contact your administrator to allow VPN configurations.

Is this safe?

Yes. The system notification warns that all activity on this iPhone/iPad may be filtered or monitored when using VPN. On a technical level this is true, as this is how VPNs work.

How to manage your VPN configuration

You can view allowed VPN configurations on your device at any time. To do this, open the Settings app → VPN. To delete a configuration, tap next to it.
