How to use Proton VPN on iOS and iPadOS
Proton VPN offers a security and privacy-focused VPN app for iOS and iPadOS. If you have an iPhone or iPad, our iOS app will protect your online activity with a secure no-logs VPN service. You can sign up for a Free plan for iOS(nieuw venster) through the app or on our website.
With our VPN app for iOS, you can connect to a VPN server with a single tap. Once connected to one of our VPN servers, your personal data will be protected, your online browsing activity will stay private, and you will be able to access censored content. This guide explains how to download and use the Proton VPN app to protect your online activity.
On an iPhone or iPod touch, the Proton VPN app requires iOS 15.0 or later. On an iPad, it needs iPadOS 15.0 or later.
1. Download and install the Proton VPN iOS app from the Apple App Store, or go to the Proton VPN iOS app download(nieuw venster) page.
2. Open the app and Sign in.
Enter your Proton Account username and password. As a security measure, you may be asked to complete a CAPTCHA.
If you do not have an account yet, get a free Proton VPN account for iOS.
3. Connect to a VPN server.
Once signed-in, you will see the Countries server list. If you are on any paid Proton VPN plan, you can connect to any of our high-speed servers in 110+ countries. If you’re on our Free plan, we’ll automatically connect you to a server in the Netherlands, Japan, Romania, Poland, or the United States.
There are several ways to connect to VPN servers.
a) The fastest way to connect to a server is by tapping the Quick Connect button.
Quick Connect uses a sophisticated algorithm to calculate which VPN server will be fastest for you based on your location and the different traffic loads on our servers.
b) If you’re on a paid Proton VPN plan, you can also manually select a server to connect to. To do this, select the Country tab, tap the country you wish to connect to → select a server from the list.
c) Tap Map to access a world map that can help you find servers close to your current location. Pinch the screen to zoom in and out of the map.
Tap on a country once to select it, then tap again to automatically connect to the fastest server in that country.
4. The first time you try to connect to a server, a connection request window will open. Tap Allow.
5. To disconnect from your current server, tap the Disconnect button that appears when you have an active VPN connection.
6. Your privacy is now protected by Proton VPN! To access the app settings menu, tap Settings.
