Streamlined server lists
If you have a paid Proton VPN account, you can connect to 15,000+ servers in 130+ countries. In the past, we displayed the entire list of available servers every time you opened the app. But with our server fleet now expanded from a few hundred servers to a many thousand servers, this is no longer practical.
It makes our apps slower to load on your device and impairs your experience using them, while providing few (if any) benefits to the vast majority of our community members.
To address these issues, our apps now instead list a subset of all available servers, so that some people will see some severs, and others will see different servers. This means:
- It’s still easy to select from any of multiple servers (often hundreds) in every country we support
- The server list is easier for you to navigate
- The app will load faster and be more responsive
- The app will be able to poll each server’s status more quickly, resulting in more accurate and up-to-date server load information
- Individual servers are much less likely to become busy (high load) during global or national events, as we can more easily balance the load (number of users) across different servers
- Our anti-censorship capabilities are improved, as reduced server lists give us greater control over who can access our network and make it easier to find servers that work when access to our network is restricted
- Our customer support team will be able to pinpoint the cause of your issues and therefore assist you more quickly
- Proton VPN can easily scale our infrastructure to meet the growing popularity for our service without impacting your user experience
All servers are still available to you
All our operational servers are available to everyone with a paid Proton VPN plan. If you have a favorite server that’s not displayed in your server list, you can search for its server name and connect to it as normal (Note: This feature is still in the process of being rolled-out across all platforms.)

It will then show in your Recent lists and can be pinned to your Home screen on Proton VPN apps that support these features. It can also be added to a Connection Profile for easy access in most apps.
If you have manually configured a VPN connection, your existing certificates and config files will continue to work as usual. The same is true for any severs in your Recents list.
