Browse securely with our new Romania VPN servers!

Romania is the 35th country to join the Proton VPN network. Now anyone can browse the Internet using a Romanian IP address(new window).

Proton VPN is a powerful tool that can protect your online data from being monitored by your Internet service provider or stolen by hackers. Because we have servers all around the world, you can also access the Internet as though you are in one of these countries. This means you can use Proton VPN to stream your favorite movies while you are on vacation or use our service to access content that is being censored — or even to avoid the upcoming “meme ban” in the EU. A trustworthy VPN is not only a shield against online surveillance, it is also a passport that allows you to access the Internet freely.

Each new server we install increases the number of IP addresses you can use. We installed our eight new VPN servers in a data center in Bucharest. They are available to users on one of our paid plans.

RO#1-3 are available on our Basic plan.
RO#4-8 are available on our Plus and Visionary plans.

Why servers in Romania are useful

High speed Internet is starting to reach out into the Romanian countryside. As of 2018, over 60 percent of households had fixed-line access to the Internet, the majority of which had speeds of over 100 Mbps. With more Romanians browsing the Internet, Proton VPN’s new servers will allow them to protect their online activity by encrypting their Internet traffic using a local IP address.

Proton VPN users who have one of our Plus or Visionary Plans can also use Tor over VPN, which lets users access the Tor network with a single click. Tor over VPN allows you to send your Internet traffic through Tor nodes without needing a specialized browser. This adds an additional layer of protection and unlocks onion sites(new window) that can only be found through the Tor network, like Proton Mail’s Tor website(new window).
