It was a long trip, but it was worth it – we just installed VPN servers in New Zealand!

With VPN servers in New Zealand(new window) added to the map, Proton VPN can now provide IP addresses in 27 countries. No matter how far you travel, you will never be too far from one of our servers and safe, private Internet access.

The four new VPN servers in Auckland are reserved for users with one of our paid plans:

NZ #1 is available for Basic plans
NZ #2-4 are available for Plus and Visionary plans

Why New Zealand?

New Zealand is in the middle of a massive expansion of its broadband Internet service, with the goal of providing 8(new window)5(new window) percent(new window) of New Zealanders access to high-speed fiber connections by 2022. We applaud this expansion of access and are proud to offer servers so that New Zealanders can protect their personal data while online.

Our servers are also a link to home for all the New Zealanders living abroad. The New Zealand IP address that these servers provide will allow anyone to access geo-restricted content, videos, and news on their favorite New Zealand websites. As always, these servers are optimized for streaming, making them perfect for watching Hulu, HBO GO, ZDF, Channel4 and Channel5 (please note that to stream Hulu(new window) you will need a Hulu subscription).

You can only access these new servers if you have a paid account(new window). In addition to these servers, when you upgrade to Proton VPN Plus, you can get access to all of our premium features, including our Plus servers, which have the fastest connection speed. You will also gain access to our Secure Streaming feature, which allows you to watch all your favorite shows while enjoying the security and peace of mind of our VPN protection.

Update July 2021: Our new VPN Accelerator technology can increase VPN speeds over long distances by over 400%. This means New Zealanders can expect dramatically improved speed performance for most internet activities. VPN Accelerator is free to all users.
