How to watch the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle online

It’s time for another royal wedding, and there’s nothing like a transatlantic love story to captivate the masses. This time, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot, there have never been so many ways to tune in. You can watch the royal wedding online via several network broadcasts in multiple countries no matter where you are in the globe.

As staunch advocates for a borderless, free Internet, we created this safe streaming guide to help our royal family fans (including those who’d prefer not to admit it) check out this historic moment while browsing safely and privately behind strong encryption.

Royal wedding schedule

The royal wedding ceremony is scheduled for 12 p.m. BST (British Standard Time) on Saturday, May 19. It will be held in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle outside London. Networks will begin broadcasting well before noon, however. The first guests will arrive around 9 a.m. BST. After the ceremony, there will be a half-hour procession.

CNN has a detailed article(new window) about the wedding day events. If you’re in the US, you’re going to have to wake up pretty early to catch the live broadcast. Here’s a time zone converter(new window) to figure out what time the royal wedding starts where you are. For American viewers, the wedding beings at 7AM New York.

Where to watch the royal wedding

There are lots of ways to watch the royal wedding. On television, all major US news and entertainment networks will be broadcasting live starting between 4 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. EDT and continuing until the late morning. Same for UK, EU and Australian networks in their respective time zones. You can find a good listing here(new window).

For those who want to watch the royal wedding online, you will probably need to use a VPN. All the Proton VPN plans (including free ones) will allow you to watch the event through a secure and private connection. Below is a list of networks that will be live streaming the royal wedding, alongside the servers you must connect to and the Proton VPN plans through which those servers are available.

CNN(new window) all US servers any plan, including free
CBS(new window) all US servers any plan, including free
ITV(new window) all UK servers any plan, including free
CBC(new window) CA#1, CA#2, CA#3, and CA#4 Canada servers with Basic, Plus and Visionary plans

Note: These servers were working for these websites when we tested them over the last few days. But because some websites use VPN blocking to enforce geographic licensing restrictions, we cannot guarantee they will continue to work.

More details about the Proton VPN plans can be found here(new window). And here(new window) is where you can learn more about our security features.

We strongly believe in the right to security and privacy while streaming content online, and we will be providing more safe streaming guides for other upcoming events, including the World Cup, Wimbledon, and the Tour de France.

Meanwhile, enjoy the wedding!

Best Regards,
The Proton VPN Team
